Common problems in the storage, transportation and maintenance of adhesive tape

2025-01-07

Factors that cause tape aging include: oxygen, ultraviolet rays (sunlight), metal (especially brass or rust), bleach, and plasticizers. Under the long-term influence of the above factors, the tape will deteriorate, soften, solidify, and lose its stickiness.

A. When peeling at an angle of about 90°, the measured peeling force is smaller and it is less likely to cause residual adhesive.

C. The peeling operation environment and the surface temperature of the attachment are less likely to cause residual adhesive at 15 ~ 38℃, and the lower temperature part is better.

For a tape supplier, all tapes are coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive on a certain substrate. Pressure-sensitive adhesive is a viscoelastic polymer. In terms of materials science, all materials will be more or less affected by oxygen, ultraviolet rays, dust, solvents, moisture, etc., so the tape manufacturer will give suggestions on the appropriate service life, storage environment and conditions, packaging specifications, etc. to maintain its quality and performance.

The reason for the color difference of the tape is that the lattice arrangement of the polymer substrate during extrusion and the polymer crystal arrangement synthesized by the pressure-sensitive adhesive will have a slight difference, which affects the color. The slight difference in the thickness of the pressure-sensitive adhesive and the tension of the tape winding will also affect the color of the tape, causing color difference after layer by layer stacking. However, the characteristic values of the substrate and the pressure-sensitive adhesive are still mainly based on their basic physical properties.
