Types and uses of electrical insulating tape

2024-09-02

Insulating tape can also be called electrical tape. This product consists of a base tape and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. The base tape is generally made of cotton cloth, synthetic fiber fabric and plastic film, etc. The adhesive layer is made of rubber plus a tackifying resin and other compounding agents, with good viscosity and excellent insulation performance.

Common electrical insulating tapes include: cloth insulating tape, plastic insulating tape, and polyester insulating tape.

Cloth insulating tape is suitable for wrapping insulation of wires and cables with AC voltage of 380 volts and below. It can be used in the temperature range of -10~40℃ and has a certain degree of adhesion.

Plastic insulating tape is suitable for wrapping insulation at AC 500-6000 volts (multi-layer wrapping) wires, cable joints, etc., and can generally be used in the range of -15~60℃.

The scope of application of polyester insulating tape is the same as that of plastic insulating tape, but it has high compressive strength, better waterproof performance, good chemical resistance, and can also be used for sealing semiconductor components.
